Preparing for a Safe and Smooth Return to School - Oct 28

We look forward to welcoming students back to their classrooms on October 29, 2025. The past few weeks have been challenging, and we appreciate your patience and support. Our focus is on ensuring a smooth transition for students and teachers, and on continuing a productive and engaging school year in a place where children are cherished and achieve their potential.

Families can expect to hear from their schools within the week with details on how learning will resume and what their student(s) can expect in terms of instruction and routines. Our goal is to ensure students feel supported and confident as they return to school.

Please be aware, there may still be some details to finalize as we continue to receive guidance from the Government of Alberta, and we will share any updates as soon as they are confirmed.

Here is what we know so far:

Bus Transportation: All bus routes operated by Southland Transportation will resume regular operation beginning October 29, 2025.

Please note that some routes have been updated since the start of job action. Families were notified but we encourage a review of current routes and pickup times on the Southland Transportation website.

Fees and Refunds:

Option Classes and Field Trips: As has been our process, any unspent fees for option classes that could not be delivered, or field trips that will not be rescheduled, will be refunded.

Early Learning Program (ELP): Based on the time lost due to job action, families will receive a one-time refund of 10% of their annual fees. Refunds will be issued automatically in November, and no further action is required from parents.

Calendar Adjustments and Student Learning:

We understand many parents are wondering how lost learning time will be addressed. At this time, the Government of Alberta has not mandated any changes to the school calendar or instructional hours. Should any future mandates be issued by the province, the division will follow those directives once they are provided.

We will communicate any changes clearly and as soon as they are confirmed. In the meantime, our teachers and school staff are focused on supporting students’ well-being, re-establishing routines, and ensuring learning resumes smoothly.

Ongoing Communication:

We know you may have questions as your children return to school. Our Division will continue to share updates by email and on this Labour Updates webpage as information becomes available.

We are excited to welcome our students back to their classrooms and school communities. We remain committed to supporting both students and staff through this transition and ensuring that learning continues in a positive, faith-filled environment.

Thank you again for your continued patience and trust.
